Rockcliffe Park is located in the Rideau-Rockcliffe Ward of Ottawa. With a population of only 2,000 people, this exclusive neighbourhood is situated on the southern shores of the Ottawa River. It's no surprise that Rockcliffe Park is the wealthiest neighbourhood in Ottawa, with many homes surrounded by woods on wide lots, and with little through traffic to disturb residents. If privacy, space and exclusivity is what you're looking for, Rockcliffe Park is a great place to call home.
Originally an individual municipality created in 1921, the Village became a part of the City of Ottawa when it amalgamated in 2001.
Rockcliffe Park has two distinct neighbourhoods, the Old Village and the New Village. Although both Villages are filled with beautiful homes, the Old Village consists mainly of older, stately homes, while the New Village contains more contemporary residences. To ensure the Village keeps up with its historically prestigious past, there are strict rules enforced in regards to landscaping and structures. Additionally, the resident's association takes great pride in helping to preserve its historical buildings, and the entire neighbourhood is a Heritage Conservation District under the Ontario Heritage Act.
Rockcliffe Park has many options for those wishing to enjoy the outdoors, first and foremost being the park it's named after. Rockcliffe Park sits just on the north edge of the Village of Rockcliffe Park, and boasts lookouts and many recreational paths along the Ottawa River. Located in the centre of the Village is the small, but beautiful McKay Lake, and its smaller neighbour The Pond. Once a gravel pit, the Pond is now known as a popular, secretive swimming hole for families to enjoy during the summer months.
This neighbourhood is known for its notable residents, including many dignitaries, diplomats and other famous people. The neighbourhhod public school, Rockcliffe Park Public School, has educated many children of politicians, as well as members of the royal Dutch family during their exile during the Second World War. Rockcliffe Park is also home to the two most prestigious private schools in Ottawa, Elmwood School and Ashbury College.
