Riverside South is in the Gloucester-South Nepean Ward of Ottawa, just southwest of the Macdonald-Cartier International Airport. Although the population is currently around 10,000 people, Riverside South is growing rapidly and is one of the faster growing communities in the area. With the Rideau River as a backdrop, this well planned neighbourhood boasts all the services and ameinities you could need right at your fingertips, making it a truly great place to live in Ottawa.
It's hard to believe that the flourishing community of Riverside South was nothing more than a vacant lot at the end of the 1990's. As you can see from the current real estate listings above, you'll mainly see newer single family homes for sale in Riverside South, but there are also some townhouses, semi-detatched homes and a small number of condos.
This planned suburban neighbourhood has all the shops and services you would need, but is also just a short drive into downtown Ottawa for work or pleasure. Outdoor fun was also built into Riverside South, it's crown jewel being the Claudette Cain Park nestled on the banks of the Rideau River. Families can enjoy their new children's splash pad and playgrounds, while their walking trails provide access to the Rideau River waterfront.
The completion of the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge in 2014, with new access across the Rideau River into Barrhaven, makes this community even more desirable for those looking to be linked to a larger neighbourhood. Experts are predicting that Riverside South and Barrhaven communities will be growing to a combined population of 100,000 people in the next 10-15 years. So prices of homes for sale in Riverside South are expected to be on the rise as the area grows.
Riverside South is also the only community to have a test school with a balanced school year. L'école élémentaire catholique Bernard-Grandmaître enjoys three fewer weeks of summer vacation, while giving their students and staff a full week off at Thanksgiving, Victoria Day, as well as an additional week over March Break. This pilot project is helping to decide if other schools in the Ottawa area will adopt this type of balanced school year.
